Pay it forward

Hyde, Catherine Ryan

Notes
ALA Book of the year.
It begins with the social studies teacher's extra-credit project: Think of an idea for world change, and put it into action. Twelve-year-old Trevor decides to start by doing something good for three people. But instead of paying him back, he would ask them to pay it forward by each doing a favour for three more people. If it all went to plan, Trevor thought, it would be the start of a long chain of human kindness. A lot of people had their doubts - Trevor's teacher, his classmates, his mother, in fact everyone in his small California town. But Trevor's idea brings a revolution not only in the lives of himself, his mother and his physically and emotionally scarred teacher, but in those of an ever-widening circle of people completely unknown to him.
