Four years ago, Francesca Schnell's young brother drowned when she should have been watching. This summer she's about to turn sixteen, but guilt keeps her stuck in the past. Then Francesca meets and begins babysitting Frankie Sky, a four-year-old boy who bears a heavy resemblance to her brother, and she begins to wonder if Frankie could be his reincarnation. As the summer goes on it starts to seem possible for Francesca to forgive herself, grow up, and even fall in love, whether or not she solves the riddle of Frankie Sky.
