Ten minutes to midnight

Amery, Colin

Notes
The seven-minute trial -- Ticket of leave -- A niche in the wallpaper -- Justice a la Ritz -- The SIS and the Rainbow Warrior affair -- Police conduct in the Rainbow Warrior affair -- Who killed Fernando Pereira? -- End of the Rainbow.
Summary: The bombing of the Rainbow Warrior, and its aftermath, has had a profound effect on the people and politics of New Zealand. Overnight, this country's perhaps naive vision of being safe from the reaches of state sponsored international terrorism, was shattered. But how, as a nation, did we react to this gross violation of our laws and mana? "Ten minutes to midnight" is an account of how two of the most despised criminals in the history of New Zealand were allowed to leave these shores, less than one year into a ten year sentence. Whilst attempting to address this issue, the author has unearthed a trail of deception, intrigue, and treachery, leading to the highest offices in our land. Colin Lloyd Amery has written a compassionate, personal account of his private prosecution attempt of Alain Marfart and Dominique Prieur. In doing so, he asks some fundamental questions about our legal system, and its ability to ensure that justice be done, in the face of considerable pressure from outside and within New Zealand.
